Mitigation of harmonic distortions in third rail electrical systems

<span lang="EN-US">The extensive use of power electronic converters in the third rail system increases harmonic distortions on electrical feeding systems. Electrical machines and transformers could be overheated causing premature failures devices. It is therefore important to address networks during real-time operation, which includes degraded not just normal operation. In this paper, a are investigated using transient analysis program (ETAP) simulation software. Four operating scenarios, namely operation three operations, considered studies. The operations occur when one bulk supply or 33 kV feeders out service. findings studies showed that 11<sup>th</sup> 13<sup>th</sup> order harmonics dominant orders due 12-pulse rectifiers system. Single-tuned filters designed placed mitigate individual voltage distortion (IHD<sub>v</sub>) total (THD<sub>v</sub>) so it within statutory IEEE 519:2014.</span>
